Tips

You’ve got the power
Battery power, that is! They’re on the shopping list, but forgetting batteries will be a BUZZ kill for Operation and make Go Fishing lose its BITE! Make sure you read the game boxes and pick up the right amount and size batteries to power your play.

Don’t co-mingle the candy
Pet peeve alert! You’ve gone through the trouble of selecting a delicious assortment of sweet treats, now show some respect to the candy creators. Stop and think before you throw the goods into one big basket or candy dish.

Two reasons:

Reason #1: You’re on your way to learning how to create visually appealing food and beverage presentations using tips from POP. Just because this is a simple soiree, don’t throw it all away by putting out a heap of candy like you’re getting ready for the Halloween rush.

Reason #2: There is a reason manufacturers haven’t tried to sell chocolate covered Skittles and Snickers with a Starburst center. When you put chocolate in with sour on top of peppermint and throw in a few pieces of gum, the candy gets too cozy and it all starts to taste the same. Keep Gummie Bears with Sweet Tarts and Pop Rocks. Group Almond Joy with Whoppers. Tootsie Pops are a crapshoot, so good luck finding a home for those!

Note: An exception to this rule is when preparing individual treat bags like those we suggest distributing during the Rock Around the Clock Party. You should provide variety when assembling treat bags, so unfortunately you’ll have to co-mingle the candy for those occasions.

Candy dish OUT! Glass cylinders, bowls, vases, colorful baskets, and ramekins IN!
Reuse some of the interesting vessels you’ve acquired for previous events and create unique candy stations around the game room. Use short vases to present Pixie Sticks. Ramekins are great for loose candy like Skittles, M&Ms, Lemon Heads, and Red Hots. Don’t forget to add spoons for scooping the candy out of the ramekins. Clear glass cylinders are a fun display option for colorfully packaged candy like Sour Patch Kids or assorted gumballs. Baskets in fun shapes and bright colors, will work for almost anything!
